Why have I not bought one of these sooner? Yesterday, I sat around de-pilling sweaters and a scarf, and it was so gratifying! Piles of lint were extracted from my clothes, and they looked SO MUCH BETTER!

Such a miraculous invention!

What is going on?

And why is it so purple around here?

These are things you may be asking yourself.

The answer is quite simple though... After several months of pondering and trying to decide what to do next, I've come to the conclusion that it's time to shut down Homegrown Cooking School. I can blame a lot of things (the bad economy among others) but I won't; it's just not lucrative enough to keep going right now. And that's ok. I've been teaching English again, part time, and looking for another job. I'm also planning my wedding, running a large house, and imagining "renting" goats to clear my backyard of ivy and blackberries. I've also been exercising a lot, doing yoga several days a week, and baking a lot to offset any benefits gained from all the exercise and yoga. And I came up with a new name for this site: Crafty Cakewagon; because I want to be able to include crafty stuff in with all of my cooking and gardening, and a new name equals a new beginning, right? This is definitely not the end; not by a long shot. There are still tons of things I want to do; possibly go back to school, save up some money, and open a bakery. (?!?! Really!) So thank you for joining me, and I promise to be a bit more faithful about posting, now that I know what I really want to say.

A Stroke of Genius

Genius, I tell you!! Last night, I made the delicious Thai-style Corn Chowder from AFR (see right), and decided that it needed a bit more protein. I found some frozen fake chicken (Gardein brand) in my freezer, and made a spicy coconut sauce to top it. But that was nothing NOTHING compared to the deliciousness that was created today. Observe:

It's like Kung Pao Chicken BUT VEGAN! And... it was so ridiculously easy, I must share it with you. First, locate these types of sauces: sweet chili sauce and sriracha (known in our house as "cock sauce")
Then, chop up a carrot, a zucchini, half a leek, and get half a package of Ficken (that's Fake+Chicken). Stir fry these things together, then add in 1 Tbsp soy sauce, about 2 Tbsp of sweet chili sauce, two shakes of powdered ginger (less than 1/4 tsp.), and a good dash of the cock sauce (probably about 1/2 tsp. to 1 tsp. total, depending on how spicy you like it.) Add 1/2 c. frozen peas, and about 1/4 c. water. Cook for 15 minutes or so, until the zucchini is soft and the carrots are cooked. Then add in 1/4 c. peanuts. Stir fry and eat!!!

It was especially delicious on top of the leftover chowder. John declared it, "The best zucchini I've eaten in my entire life!" I think that's a pretty good compliment!

He also said, "I think the secret to my heart is fried carrots." However, if you try to use this weakness to steal my man, I may have to resort to violence!

Appetite for Reduction

I have been SO excited about this cookbook (and this one too) for months! Since Happy Herbivore still isn't out, I have been spending every week since Christmas devising menus from A.F.R. and I have to tell you, it is fantastic!! So far I have made (in order of deliciousness): Eggplant Mole Chili, Red Thai Tofu, Pineapple Bhutanese Rice (although with basmati instead), Thai Basil Green Beans, Caribbean Curried Black-eyed Peas with Plantains, Califlower Pesto Soup, Ginger Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Apples (I used pears), Everyday Tofu, and Miso Tofu. Up for today is Butternut Squash Coconut Rice and Blackened Tofu. There are so many things I've tagged in this book, I had to start color coding them! So, if you are looking for something both healthy and tasty to add to your life, you should RUN (not walk) to buy this book!
